If you’re exploring the world of cannabis edibles, you’ll want to understand dosing so you can have a safe, enjoyable, and consistent experience every time! Follow along for dosing recommendations for CBD and THC edibles!
First off, let’s talk about how we measure potency and dosage.
We use milligrams (mg) as the standard unit of measurement for all cannabis products. Whether you’re considering CBD, THC, or other cannabinoids, understanding cannabis dosing is key to achieving your desired effect without any unpleasant surprises.
It is important to note that not all edibles are created the same! Meaning, just because you took a gummy once, doesn’t mean you’ll have the same experience by eating a completely different gummy the next time around. They may look the same, but one could be much more potent than the other. So please be sure to always check the potency (mg) on the package.
Dosing Recommendations
A typical edible dose of CBD (or other non-intoxicating cannabinoids) for a healthy individual using it for general wellness is between 5-30mg/day. For someone dealing with a more severe condition, it may be upwards of 100mg, multiple times a day.
For Delta-9 THC, health benefits can be felt starting at just 2mg of THC, but most people won’t feel intoxicated with less than 5mg. For beginners looking for a recreational high, a typical edible dose is around 5-15mg of THC, although experienced users or those using it for medicinal purposes may require a more potent dose between 20-100mg of THC.
Dosing depends on many factors, including but not limited to an individual’s weight, tolerance, their health conditions and the severity of those conditions, and their bodies’ chemical composition.
It may also depend on whether a product has only one single cannabinoid, or a combination of cannabinoids and terpenes (A.K.A. The Entourage Effect, which means that the combination of multiple cannabinoids and/or other plant compounds is more effective than any individual cannabinoid, alone).
Everyone is different and everyone will require some time and experimentation when establishing their “perfect dose.” This is why we recommend starting low and going slow. Give yourself time for the cannabinoids to process and build up in your system before deciding what works or doesn’t.
